Frequently asked

What is a postal code in Chile?

A 7-digit number from the Chilean postal system. A commune code ends in 0000 and works for most forms; an exact one identifies the block face. It's used in international shopping and shipping forms.

Why do you sometimes show the commune code and not the exact one?

For much of Chile only a commune-level code exists, and it works for most forms. When reliable address-level information is available, we show the exact code and label its precision.

Where does the data come from?

From GeoNames' open commune dataset, OpenStreetMap (ODbL), and address validations.

Is it free? Do you have an API?

Yes to both. Looking up your code is free, and we offer a public, documented API for developers, no API key.

Does the commune code work for AliExpress, Amazon or Shein?

Yes. Those forms just need a valid postal code for your commune, and the base code does the job. For the exact block-level code, add your street and number.

How do I put the postal code in a shipping form?

Copy the 7 digits (no spaces or dashes) into the 'postal code' or 'ZIP code' field. In Chile it has no letters.

What if my commune isn't listed or the code is wrong?

Type it without accents or check the spelling; all 346 communes are listed. If an address cannot be validated, use the commune base code shown as the fallback.
